Mt. Wellington Cable Car hearings begin

The Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (TASCAT) hearings for the Mount Wellington Cable Car began today, and will run for approximately three weeks / one month.

Of the 21 grounds for refusal, Hobart City Council has dropped 4 grounds and retained 17:

  • visual impact 2

  • geo-conservation 2

  • biodiversity 3

  • noise 3

  • planning 2

  • planning/noise 1; and

  • planning/visual impact 4.

Of the 4 grounds that were dropped 1 dealing with biodiversity (to be addressed via conditions) and three are not being pursued dealing with storm water, geotechnical instability and safe vehicle movements accessing McRobies Road.

A further series of grounds are being pursued by ROCC (6), resident Karl Rollings (1) and South Hobart Progress Association (2).

TCT will attend the hearings and keep our supporters updated on the proceedings where we are not constrained by the tribunal rules.

Due to COVID restrictions, we recommend interested members of the public view the hearings remotely.
